300 x sweeter than sugar. Without the calories.

Chrysanta is a plant derived, ‘totally natural’ sweetener coming from the South American herb Stevia Rabaudiana.  It is not an artificial sweetener and is not conventional Stevia.

It can replace artificial sweeteners and some sugar in BEVERAGES, SOFT DRINKS, DAIRY PRODUCTS, BAKERY PRODUCT & CANNED FRUIT.

The key component of Chrysanta that creates sweetness is the glycoside Rebaudioside A. Where traditional Stevia products, currently available through the Australian health food industry contain approximately 40% Rebaudioside A, and deliver a bitter or astringent taste,  Chrysanta contains at least 90% Rebaudiside A. This means that this totally natural product not only tastes good but it is approximately 300 times sweeter than sugar, and possesses a number of food manufacturing advantages over sugar and of course all artificial sweeteners.

Benefits of Chrysanta over Sugar and Artificial Sweeteners:

  • Chrysanta is 300 times sweeter than sugar thus allowing it to be used in very small quantities   compared to sugar.
  • It is almost calorie free, thus providing significant health benefit over sugar.
  • Chrysanta is a totally natural, non-GMO, non-synthetic sweetener, similar to  sugar.
  • Chrysanta has a synergistic effect with other flavour ingredients in many products, enhancing the flavour characteristics of the other flavour.  Eg. Chrysanta will enhance the lemon flavour in lemon drink, allowing either a more intense flavoured drink or a reduction in the lemon ingredient.
  • Chrysanta is stable at high temperature and in a high acid situations, unlike sugar and some artificial sweeteners.
  • Non Browning reaction – Where sugar will change to brown or black when reducing different foods, due to the browning reaction, Chyrsanta will NOT.
  • Chrysanta will allow the freezing point of ice cream products to be closer to 0°C, whereas ice creams with large amounts of sugars tend not to freeze at 0°C.
  • Where sugar in large amounts can mask flavour, Chrysanta will not because it is used in such small quantities.

Totally Natural

Chrysanta has been developed using traditional, non-GMO plant breeding techniques since 1985, with the manufacturers being successful in slowly but surely increasing the proportion of Rebaudioside A to at least 90%, to give its pleasant taste. As a result, the rights to a number of new varieties have been secured and Chrysanta is being used worldwide to substitute some sugar and replace artificial sweeteners.

Registration

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) in collaboration with the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee (JECFA) have approved the ADI and permitted the use of high purity Steviol glycocides in a broad range of food groups, effective from October 2008. Chrysanta has satisfied this approval process for use in food and beverage products and is now available for commercial sale in Australia and New Zealand.
