The safety of stevia extracts has been confirmed by various toxicity, mutagenicity, and other studies.
The specification for stevia extracts is included in the Japan's Specifications and Standards for Food Additives 8th edition. It is specified therein that stevia extracts contain not less than 80.0% of the steviol glucoside base.
